The article is true.

I just ran into *exactly* the same thing yesterday.  IP forwarding is 
turned off by default in the RH 5.0 kernel.

I've just converted to RedHat, so I'm not sure of *ALL* the ways to
change this, but certainly one of the easiest ways to change it is to
fire up X (as root) and use the "network" configurator in the control
panel.  Click on the "Routing" tab.  Click "IP Forwarding (IPv4)", Save,
Quit.

AFAIK you pretty much have to reboot for it to take effect, but after
that you should be gold (I was :-).
