Hello, I spent more time than I'd care to admit, getting ftpd to work with RH 5.0. Summary: comment out: auth required /lib/security/pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny file=/etc/ftpusers onerr=succeed in /etc/pam.d/ftp. ftpd core dumps in pam_listfile.so. The gory details: What I should have done was attact the config files right away. But no, I noticed that ftpd was died with a SEGV, so silly me had to try and figure out why. (: First problem, how to get it to generate a core dump? It turns out the inetd with ulimit for core dumps set to 0, ie no core dumps are made. After: killing inetd ulimit -c unlimited inetd ftpd made a core file in the directory where I started inetd from. I haven't figured out why it cores yet. The file /etc/ftpusers looks fine. I tried downloading the latest PAM from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs/pam/pre and installed only the pam_listfile.so, but it complains about dlopen not being able to resolve the symbol lstat. Not sure why. Thats a battle for another day. Hope this helps someone...
