I had similar problems (as Domenico) with the installation of canna. On my
system (RedHat 5) the double start of cannaserver was caused by some backup
files
from rpm in the /etc/init.d/rc*.d directories. (I think, I installed
cannaserver twice,
and therefore got the backup of the canna startup file)

Since all these files are executed after booting, the original startup file
and
the backup file tried to start the cannaserver, and the second one
complained
that cannaserver is already running.
After removing these backup files, canna works fine for me.

I'm actually only on a w95 machine at work, so I can't look up the exact
file names and location, but I can tell you on monday if you need.

Hope that helps,

	Harald
