I agree completely.  I download the sources to XFMail 1.2 a month or so back
and bravely set off on my first-ever compile, which worked.  I was quite
impressed with it, and thought it's only real drawback was the one glaring
one: no Japanese.  Like you, I keep hoping that the author or someone else
will hack Japanese support into it.  It's a great program.
