Those are normal; I don't know if you need o+r or not, it's
theoretical a tiny lack of privacy since anyone can check if you have
gotten mail.  But then, finger will do that too....

We really need to see the owner and group.  what does

ls -ld /var/spool/mail /var/lock /var/spool/mail/jonathan

say?

I don't care what Scott says about it working at PHT, I don't think
with those owners and the permissions you showed above that _both_ Pine
and Pine-j can work at the same time.  Think about it.

If pine works, then I'll bet `chown root.root jpine' wins.  If I'm
right, _Scott_ owes me a ... hmm ... not that, either ... OK, an OJ.
