Help ! I just threw out my 56K modem in favour of a shiny new Sony STA128 ISDN modem and I haven't been online from Linux ever since - Of course it works like a charm when I try using 95 :-( The MAJOR change (if I understand it correctly) is that I am now logging on at high speed which means that instead of login / password, tbeing handled by the chat script, the authentication (PAP) is now handled directly by the pppd daemon. I've made entries in my pap-secrets file, tried beefing up the options in my options file, but the debug output in the system files always shows that I cannot get beyond a CONNECT - I get an "LCP:timeout sending Config-Requests" every time. (Even if I try dialing in on minicom, exit without a reset and manually start pppd) Eventually (30secs) I get kicked out of the system... I've spent countless hours perusing FAQs and mailing list etc. and actually saw someone who had the same error, but they resolved it by removing the speed from the pppd command line - I've not had such luck with or without specifying the speed. My friendly ISP provider was even reluctant to confirm that they used PAP authentication when I mentioned Linux, so I'm really on my own here and this is gradually progressing from a good learning experience to a rather frustrating one :-o Anyone had any similar experiences / any ideas what might be the problem ? I'm running RH 5.0 with version 2.3.3 of PPPD.
