I had the same problem when I first tried to connect my Linux box to my ISP. You might look at my homepage (which hasn't been updated in a while), but two of the links tell you how to connect to your ISP using a Perl script. Just copy and paste the script to your system, change the ISP data, make the new file (let's call it ispup) executeable with the following command - chmod +x ispup. You need to make sure that your modem is configured correctly. There is also a link there that will tell you how to check and see if you've done that correctly. Anyway, this is just some helpful hints. I really don't like using minicom or seyon to get online, but I still use the Perl script to get online every night. Haven't seen any reason to change. It works, so I leave it alone. Hope this helps.
