I've heard similar stories with other HP > printers bought in Japan. Hmmm. The last time I checked, HP printers spoke PCL -- not PS unless there was a P tacked onto the end of the model number. Therefore, as your printer doesn't have a P on the end, it doesn't speak PS. Have you tried ghostscript?
