I think that's actually a fair statement.  NT is still a single-user
system, but they're trying to make it act like it's not.

These are interesting competitive times, since we have some flavors of
Unix (particularly Linux)  trying to invade NT's turf by becoming good
at desktop-oriented stuff and increasing their ease of use, while NT is
trying to move into the server space that is still owned by Unix.

Which one will come out better in this competition still remains to be
seen, but I think that this point we can fairly say that neither is
really invading the other's turf very well from a technical standpoint
(NT has a very long way to go as a server OS, while Unix has a very long
way to go as a desktop OS), but NT generally seems to be doing a better
job of invading Unix' turf when viewed from a sales standpoint.

It will be interesting indeed to see what Linux developers can do to
turn up the heat in the breathing space to be gained from the release
delays of NT 5.  NT 4 is really going to be an aging release by the time
5 comes out, and if Linux developers move very quickly in that time
space to really increase the desktop quality of Linux while
simultaneously making it an even better server OS than it is now, it
could really be in an excellent position by the time NT 5 comes out.
