Perl scripts are good for ... hmm, on second thought, I'll save what I was going to write about Perl for Penthouse Letters, where I can get paid for it. The executive summary is that Perl is good for situations where doing it the same way twice is boring, and creativity gets high premiums, and doing it exactly right is unnecessary because it's best when done "by hand" anyway (which isn't true for the EP Penthouse Letters version). The Way, the Truth, and the Light here is to figure out how to use SGML tools (not sgmltools, use sp). Then you won't get hosed when you change HTML DTDs. And you can't POSSIBLY make a case-sensitivity mistake. This is actually trivial (but mendoukusai, also I don't have a MBCS version at the moment so can't test) using Clark's sp. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +1 (298) 53-5091 -------------------------------------------------------------- Next Nomikai: 18 September, 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 Next Meeting: October, Tokyo Station Yaesu central gate 12:30 -------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsor: PHT, makers of TurboLinux http://www.pht.co.jp
