According to Don Becker IrDA is a shitty protocol, too. He is
right. In fact, they should have used either PPP or - much
better - AX25 as a link layer protocol. 

What Don means is that the whole thing is rather dilettantic.
Well, sure. But it is a spec nevertheless, albeit a shitty one.
