Sounds kinda like Let's Note disease.  Are you getting any messages on the
error console?  (alt-f3 or alt-f4, I forget which; go through the alt-f? keys
until you find it :-)   ).  I hope it's just the network card.  Do you know if
it's NE-2000 compatible or anything-compatible?

I've heard 3Com does, but I don't have a notebook so I also don't have any
firsthand knowledge on that.
