Jonathan, Nice little interface, xisp. But unfortunately, I'm no closer than I was before. Which authentification protocol should I use? (Actually, I tried them all to no apparent effect.) I can definitely cause the TA to dial -- digitally -- by linking /dev/modem to /dev/cua1 (a link to cua0 causes the *modem* to dial using analog). But I get a no carrier message about 5 seconds into the digital call. Specifically, I see: ATV1 H0 OK AT DT 5489-8200 NO CARRIER (This is using xisp.) To answer your other question, the TA is an NEC Aterm IT65Pro. And the manual is a bear for me to read. ;-)) Lance From: Jonathan Byrne <jq@example.com> To: tlug@example.com Subject: Re: tlug: Re: ISDN problems Send reply to: tlug@example.com On Sun, 8 Nov 1998, Lance Cummings wrote: > Red Hat's netcfg? If in doubt, just use ATZ, but I think the NEC manual has a specific init string in it somewhere, too. Which model of NEC is this? Is the init string in your the script the one for the USR? If so, I would definitely recommend against using that with the TA. If you'd like a nice graphical dialer (looks nicer than the Windows or Mac ones), check out X-ISP: http://users.hol.gr/~dbouras/ Since I'm not doing dial-up access I've never been able to try this, but it looks like it has a lot of nice features. It's a frontend to pppd/chat, but adds a lot more.
