I need to set up a dedicated print server on a Windows network, using an old 486/100. I was going to install win95, but I was wondering how easy it is to do with Linux and Samba. I know nothing about Samba (and my Unix/Linux isn't that hot either :-), so I've a few questions: Do you think I can learn enough to get it running with just a few hours of study? Are there any must-read books, or are the readme/how-to good? Do I need to install X windows? This machine probably doesn't have much disk space or memory. Is there a way to find out if Linux has a driver for the printer ahead of time, eg. a database I can search? Or do I even need a printer driver? All the machines on the network already have a driver for it. Any and all advice welcome!
