To be honest?  Mostly.  To be careful?  Maaaa, ne.  To avoid attacks
via "tunnels" through usually legit services?  (Consider IRC DCC and
other RPC applications.)  Zero.  Not their job, mon.

Attacks usually come from outside, yes.  But physical firewalls are
usually two-way to prevent the flow of hot air in either direction.
Network firewalls often are exactly analogous.
