Okay, so about half a year back I was installing RH 5.1, and had a little trouble using Xconfigurator to create my XF86config file. I came here to TLUG, and Chris told me to make the following adjustments: (--) SVGA: PCI: Trident TGUI 96xx rev 211, Memory @ 0xfb800000, MMIO @example.com (**) SVGA: chipset: generic This is your problem. Remove the "chipset generic" line from your XF86Config Cool. Then Matt recomended i use xf86config to configure my video card. Armed with these gems of knowledge, I went to m machine and had it running smoothly in no time. So here it is six months later, and I'm setting up RH 5.2, and i runn into the same problem again. "Aha!" Thinks I, "I'll just go to the TLUG archive, get the same solution as before, and everything will be peachy". So i go home and use xf86config to set up my XF86config file, and then I remove the "chipset: generice" line. And my monitor goes haywire when I say "startX". So after fiddling around, I discover that this time Xconfigurator has the highest rate of success, because it won't give me a resolution higher than 320X200, but at least it doesn't turn my monitor into blithering idiot (that's my job!) Sigh. So what can i try here? _________ Included here is my XF86config file. I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the Screen section, where, in the SVGA part, all the lines for my card have been commented out. However, I tried uncommenting them and commenting out mention of a "generic" video card, but that gave me near random results. # File generated by XConfigurator. # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the XF86Config(4/5) man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** # ********************************************************************** # Files section.
