tlug: 2 Problems with Kernel 2.2.1 upgrade

Firstly, thanks to everyone for their help on screen capture.

I've upgraded everything mentioned in the
linux-2.2.1/Documentation/Changes file.

However, I can't surf the web - after entering a URL Netscape says "XYZ
host contacted. Waiting for reply..." and proceeds to wait and wait and
wait, regardless of the host. I am not using a modular 2.2.1 kernel.

Is this a kernel configuration problem? I know little about networking,
so I wouldn't know if this is a missing configuration item, or a
userspace problem. I suspect the former as I can browse fine under
2.0.36.

Also, has anyone who has upgraded to modutils-2.1.121 managed to keep
modules working when booting under 2.0.x? It appears to have broken my
modular 2.0.x kernel as it cannot load ppp anymore as a module.
