And not always newbies - if they are used to other mailing list software.
I'm not a majordomo expert but is it possible to do things like:

1.Allow the unsubscribe command to be in the subject OR the body of the
message.

2.Have it do some near-miss spell correcting. "unsub", "unsubsribe", etc.
Or a list of aliases that the list administrators can add to as they crop up.

3.Have it scan messages sent to the main list, and if they are a single
line and contain the words "[un]subscribe" or "join", redirect them to the
list administrator.

4.If the message contains the phrase "I have a problem" then send them an
extra email containing the words to Monty Pythons "Always look on the
bright side of life".
