Will more recent kernels boot with out video?!?  A few years back I
tried running Linux on a machine with MDA (Monochrome) "video"
card, and it complained.  I don't remember the exact complaint, but
I had to enable the on-motherboard video in order to get Linux to
boot, even though it then used the MDA video and monitor just
fine...  (Yes, only in text mode)
