But if you think that you may add a third machine sometime in the not > too distant future, then buy a hub. Just to clarify: it's possible to network two 10Base-T nodes together with a crossover cable. This is only good for point-to-point connections. To network multiple nodes you need a hub (a.k.a. repeater) or a switch (a.k.a. multiport bridge). 10Base-2 (thinnet) is another option if you're on a *really* limited budget, but I'd recommend staying away from it if at all possible (UTP is *so* much easier to deal with than coax). 10Base-T hubs and switches can be found amazingly cheap these days. Good directions for making a crossover cable can be found at: http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable5.htm Regards, -- Rex ------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Technical Meeting: June 19 (Sat), 18:30 place: Temple Univ. *** Topic: Linux SMP/Quad Xeon Server Next Nomikai: July 16 (Fri), 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 ------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan
