Make sure to answer Y, not M, to all questions or you'll have to make and move the modules too. Or download Debian and load up from its floppies; I'm pretty sure Debian provides PLIP as a module. Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/nfsroot.txt. Build a kernel with NFS capabilities and PLIP built in (or you'll have make an initrd with the modules in it in the right places, nontrivial). Put syslinux and the new kernel on a floppy, set syslinux.cfg to boot up the kernel with NFS root, fix /etc/exports to export your root directory on the archive host. (This is a very bad idea of course, but as long as neither of the machines is connected to the internet, you probalby will survive.) Probably the export should be read-only to a private IP address (eg in the 192.168.x.y range IIRC). -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ What are those two straight lines for?
