Since this thread is getting more and more off topic (but interesting) I though I should throw some more (off topic) logs in the fire... What about "the Lemelson patent" on using some kind of radiation to detect stuff? It might sound strange but there actually is a patent that covers all forms of image processing. All. I am not sure about the exact patent text but the patent holder (the Lemelson Center, I believe) claims it covers bar code readers, optical inspection, machine vision etc. The guy Lemelson applied for the patent 1955 or so but stalled the process so the patent did not become valid until a few years ago. This is a case where I feel the (at least US) patent laws create a strange, and unfair, situation where for example all bar code reader manufacturers has to pay royalties. /Fredricbegin:vcard n:Fredricson;Fredric tel;fax:+46 8 475 55 01 tel;work:+46 8 475 55 21 x-mozilla-html:FALSE url:www.mydata.se org:MYDATA automation AB;Development adr:;;Adolfsbergsvägen 11;BROMMA;Stockholm;SE-168 66;Sweden version:2.1 email;internet:fredric@example.com title:Manager System Software R&D fn:Fredric Fredricson end:vcard
