I know this as a simple solution but I'm just not finding it. I try starting apache on my RH7.1 box and all I get is a message saying [FAILED]. Nothing in /var/log/httpd either. I've been following Johdn De Hoog's thread about problems with leafnode as they seem similar to mine, but I'm not quite there yet. I have noticed that netstat -A -l inet doesn't have an entry for httpd though. I assume this means there is a problem with my xinetd setup. I created my own conf file for httpd and put it in /etc/xinetd.d/ . It looks like this # default: on service httpd { wait = no server = /usr/sbin/httpd disable = no socket_type = stream user = root } I have also disabled ipchains, even though it was set to accept everything. And removed the hosts.deny file, added ALL: ALL to hosts.allow. But still httpd refuses to start. Is this an xinetd config problem? What did I miss?
