I guess the Japanese language only Linux > lists should have a whole lot more traffic. In part, I think promotions and higher OPTEMPOs at work might had more to do with the overall decline then a recession. Currently, I know about 7 out of 10 ex-TLUGers are masterfully working IT related jobs in Japan. I can confirm that the other linux lists in Japan have more traffic, but I recall that has been the case since mid-to-late 1998. I agree that chat channels might have had an impact. I remember that TLUG's chat channel failed to attract many people and was subsequently killed. On another note, I recall a few of the older members were getting frustrated with the TLUG flame wars. Stephen, for one, listed his reasons for leaving: http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/Tools/Attitude/Why-i-must-leave-tlug.html As for myself, I found the joys of Plan 9 and Inferno. I, now, enjoy twenty second kernel compile times, a better C compiler, and simplified system administration. ;) Regardless, you'll still catch me using Linux at the office and posting to TLUG from time to time. *grin* -- Uva Coder
