I actually thought of that, but I doubt that thread display is a client-side operation. I imagine (have not actually de-obfuscated the Gmail code to verify this) that "conversation view" is simply a server-side operation that is invoked with an AJAX call from the JavaScript. Has anyone actually looked at the code? I know I saw a Firefox extension that was designed to de-obfuscate code like Gmail's so that it could be studied, but I don't remember what it was called. -Josh
