Yeah, that was one of the sequences I've tried.

I think I've tried every combination of sequences and timing possible by 
now, though of course I'm open to any specific suggestions based on an 
as yet untried theory.

It just occurred to me today that maybe I can try an alternate method of 
connecting my Palm Pilot. Bluetooth or WiFi maybe.

I don't think I have any hardware for that already on hand, but if it 
seems possible, I might buy into it.
