Yeah, that's what I thought the goal was too. But either that's not the 
case, or I'm not understanding how to set that up.

Whoops, my bad. I just realized that I had set 8443 as the port for SSH 
in the SSH configuration file as part of the instructions on this web page:
http://www.brainonfire.net/2006/08/21/vnc-over-ssh/

So that's why it was only working on 8443.

Sorry for the confusion.
