Yes and no. LaTeX's stated goal is to make computerised typesetting work well. While LaTeX typically does not need to control placement by the millimetre (micrometre?), it provides ways to do this. Granted, doing that is not exactly straight-forward. :) The way to go here might actually be to use ImageMagick or some other tool to produce a gridded image, instead of mucking with typesetting in LaTeX or PostScript. -- Cheers, Josh
