How efficient are DC->DC conversions compared to AC->DC? I'm thinking
that even if you feed a computer DC, that DC probably isn't going to be
on the specific mix of voltages that the computer wants, so some
conversion is still going to have to be done. Probably the incoming DC
would have to be at a fairly high voltage, much as AC is; you'd need
some rather massive wires to carry the 10 or 20 amps a computer would
need at a lower voltage.
