For anyone that wants to edit gif/bmp files etc.
GIMP stands for General Image Manipulation Program
I haven`t checked it fully .
There is a a.out Binary for Linux

I just downloaded it last night , untarred it in to my
/usr/local/lib directory and BANG! it ran
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

BTW my kernel is 1.2.13
