This is my understanding too.  

Set the domain name to geocities.com then create an account on your
Linux box called jpmag.

Then, do an su -l jpmag   in something like a kterm.  Start pine
in that terminal.  You can either use IMAP to get the mail from
geocities.com or use fetchmail to suck it down with POP.

I don't think it can do this in pine.

Yes, I use mew now.  I can confirm that it works.
