OK. > But, when I boot the kernel says "can't find ....modules.dep", so I Oh, oh.....do you always run "depmod -a" when booting up. This is the utlity that creates the "/lib/modules/<kernel_version>/modules.dep" file. You can also run it from the command line. This should fix this problem. > suppose that all of my modules don't load. Yet, I selected PLIP as a THAT certainly not. It just says that automatic chain loading using modprobe or the kerneld doesn't work if a module to be loaded requires another one to be loaded beforehands. > module and in the boot-up output it seems to load just fine... Evidently. > 2) Also, I tried to "make menuconfig" a 2.0.35 kernel which I d/l'd off of > PHT (not blaming them) from their sunsite mirror, but it said that it > couldn't find 'curses.h'. How is it that the 2.0.34 kernel menuconfig > could, but 2.0.35 couldn't find this? Obvious. Apparently the library makeup differs between RH and PHT. Enter the directory "/usr/src/linux/scripts/lxdialog" and do a "make clean all". That should fix it. > 3) Also, since I haven't been able to get the RH sound configuration > program to recognize my sound card at all, I suppose that it probably > because I am loading it as a module and my modules aren't loading...right? More to the point: because chain loading doesn't work. Actually, this is the BIG problem of RH: it is full of little modifications and configuration bugs that make it run in principle, but with those little nasty surprises constantly popping up. This is why I stick to Slackware: this sure is not the most advanced distribution, but it has extremely few bugs and thus causes the least trouble in everyday use. ================================================================ "It was hell.
