X is not X; different vendors have servers tweaked in different ways.
However AFAIK XFree86 is the usual vendor for both Linux and *BSD.

Bah.  If people would tune their bloody icons instead of demanding
thousands of colors it mostly wouldn't be a problem.  I guess this is
progress though....  (Color me colorless.  What can I say, I'm a
text-oriented kinda guy.)

I wouldn't, unless the only app you plan to run is the GIMP.

Or XF86Setup, which is more reliable than Xconfigurator in my
experience, although not as pretty.
