Newbies can be quite valuable to mailing lists for this very reason: they cause the "experts" to think about the whys and wherefores, which sometimes results in those "experts" learning something new.
e.g. in this case, I had never even *heard* "object を V-potential" before, but it is obvious that it has slithered into the language somehow. ;)
